However, MINI is giving the model a worthy sendoff, with special Final Edition versions of the MINI Clubman. Here at our Glencoe, IL MINI dealership, our dealers would like to remember the MINI Clubman by giving an overview of its storied history.
Beginnings
The MINI Clubman, one of the UK’s smallest estate vehicles, traces its roots back to the 1950s when the original MINI Cooper emerged as a revolutionary small car. With a transverse-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the original MINI Cooper maximized space efficiency and boasted iconic style. Before long, in 1960, the MINI Van capitalized on this layout for commercial use, leading to the introduction of the Clubman in 2012, which is a quirky urban delivery vehicle.
MINI Clubman Estate
In 1969, the MINI Clubman Estate was introduced, featuring a larger, more practical design. It boasted upmarket styling revisions from designed Roy Haynes. Production of this model continued until 1982, with nearly 200,000 units sold.
Resurrection
After a hiatus, the MINI Clubman was resurrected in 2007, featuring a modern interpretation with a lengthened body and distinctive “barn door” twin side-opening tailgate. This version offered turbocharged engines and increased cargo room over the hatchback, which made it ideal for families.
Today
The modern MINI Clubman, with a premium five-seat configuration, blends modern elegance with classic MINI charm. With plenty of cargo space, four full-size doors, and characteristic split rear doors, it offers practicality, fun, and refinement.
In particular, the 2024 MINI Clubman has premium features like a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, split-rear doors, and an intuitive 8.8-inch touchscreen.
